Coping With Computer Vision Syndrome
By Gordon Kaye
Working on computers can be hard on the eyes over time. A person with good eyesight or even with long-time corrected sight issues may go through changes in vision ranges, requiring eye wear or other tools and tips of some type for help. If you note changes with your vision while you work - or play - from day to day on a computer, try these tips on for size. 1) Note distance changes. If you were always nearsighted, working with screens that are just too far away to comfortably see may have helped you develop farsighted or other abilities to compensate. Make an appointment with your local optometrist or eyeglass facility to have your eyes checked by a professional. 2) You may need eyeglasses that offer blended lenses or multifocal points, to compensate for near vision, arm length or intermediate vision and distance vision. Some call these trifocals or progressive lenses, too. So ask your eye health care professional about these options. 3) Other avenues for help with your vision include using contact lenses that can also offer blended capabilities nowadays. Call your eye care professional to see what is available for your prescription. 4) You may choose to simply keep different eye wear on hand. Maybe you want a pair of glasses just for computer time. And maybe other times you want your blended lenses or contacts. Mix and match, see what works in your budget and eye care plans. Caring For Your Eyes' Health Now let's tackle eye health with computer users. Were eyes meant to stare without blinking endlessly at screens for hours at a time? No! Seek comfort and better health for your eyes with the following: A) Seek and find affordable self-hypnosis software and literature for offline use. Then set up self-hypnotic commands telling you to "blink" more. This type software program can run without notice on your computer screen while you work. A funny thing is you will notice it more after you use it for awhile, then forget to re-activate it after you need to reboot some day (like after a power failure during a storm). Your eyes will tire and you will wonder what's up! Head to Clickbank.com or Google.com for software for this and Amazon.com and eBay.com for other informative products: ebooks, print books, CDs, DVDs, etc. B). Give your eyes R&R, rest and relation, regularly. Take 5 every hour and close your eyes, relaxing your muscles and vision. Some cultures enjoy time away during the afternoon, long breaks after lunch. Follow in their footsteps or at least take short breaks throughout the day. C) Give comfort to sore, tired eyes with a fresh, cool, damp washcloth, Start off your sleep this way, if you like. D) Also seek comfort with eye drops from the local pharmacy or online drug or eye care store, or prescription-strength from your optometrist. E) Protect your eyes when you are outside with good sunglasses. Shop for these at local eye glass centers or online.
